And finally, the last one. Monday Muay Thai class + Boxing class The guest kru had us working on a few different short sequences to start out. They didn't seem to make a central idea behind them, but they were all practical and effective by themselves, so it was fine. Then we had to string them together into one big sequence, which felt decidedly less practical, but at least it can work on building stamina. The boxing class worked on switching between aggressive and defe

Catching up, part four. Tuesday Muay Thai class This class worked on long sequences. It was rough for my first one back after a bout of illness over the weekend, but I survived. That said, I did skip out on the boxing class this day to avoid going overboard too soon. Wednesday Muay Thai class + Boxing class The guest kru ran a head-to-head back-and-forth defense class. It started out fine, mixed in some odd stuff around the middle, but then finished nicely with some fr

Catching up, part three. Monday Muay Thai class + Boxing class The guest kru made this whole class about building up a big progressive drill. I don't mean to be negative about it, but despite including elbow and knee strikes, I just felt like it got bloated after the first few steps to a point that felt unnecessary. The boxing class, on the other hand, worked on defensive reactions and countering, which is always a worthwhile topic, especially when handled well. Tuesday

Catching up, part two. Monday Muay Thai class + Boxing class The guest kru ran this class about progressively building up a sequence involving feints. It was a good thing to practice, even if the drills were scripted to a point where I feel like they weren't giving full potential value, but that's honestly a nitpick. The boxing class focused on quick entry and exiting with an offensive burst in between. It seemed like the more practical of the two classes to me. Tuesday

Has it been a month already? Monday Muay Thai class + Boxing class This was a fundamentals review class. It was a basic but good grind, with some extra calisthenics added on compared to usual. This was my first real class with the new boxing coach, and I liked how it went. We worked on movement and managing space with jabs. It was definitely a different approach compared to the main kru, but it was sensible enough that I'm looking forward to doing more. Tuesday Muay T

And part three. Monday Muay Thai class This was a kick endurance class, mostly working on round kicks targeting different levels, with some front kicks mixed in as well. It was a nice grind to start the week, though sadly, the holiday weekend meant there was no second class. Tuesday Muay Thai class This class started out with head-to-head back-and-forth defense drills, with the kru saying she wanted us to focus on being quick to return after defending. Some people didn'

Catching up on the recaps that I've missed lately, part two. Monday Muay Thai class + Boxing class The guest kru ran a class about building up piece by piece from a simple start into a long sequence including defense and countering. It was reasonable all in all, though he got rather "one true way" about explaining certain things, but I can understand that as a simple and clear starting point for some of the newer people to work from. The main kru ran the boxing class afte

Catching up on the recaps that I've missed lately. Monday Muay Thai class The guest kru was teaching a progressive drill class this day. It was good work with lots of natural repetition for the early elements to help really dial in the technique through fatigue. Tuesday Muay Thai class This was a round kick day, with lots of checking and returning to work on defense and offense. We also did a lot of squats in between for extra conditioning. All in all, good hard work.

It's been good to have my martial arts training as a grounding element in tumultuous times. Monday Muay Thai class This was a fundamentals review class, partly to help a new person get started. I was in a trio with them, too, for extra help. They seemed to listen and tried to apply the advice I was giving, which is always welcome. A fine way to start their time at this gym. Tuesday Muay Thai class This class was about grinding out long sequences to build stamina. Some

I feel like I somehow have a lot and nothing going on at the same time lately. I am reminded of the song DOS by Ayria. Monday Muay Thai class This class was about setting up round kicks. It was pretty fundamental stuff, but as usual, I'm always fine with working on that. Nothing fancy, but I'll take practical and effective over annoying chaff any day. The kru also said I was doing well, which I'm trying to just take as a compliment. Tuesday Muay Thai class This class
