Workout Recap - Week of December 17, 2023
So, I am aware that I'm rather late in posting this. Part of it was that I had some trouble logging into my Wix account. Part of it was that I was depressed.
Monday
Muay Thai class
We worked on round kicks to the head for this class, so it was of limited value to me in general but still nice to push my body to do something different. We started out with just kicking through on a loose pad, which I did fine enough with my rear leg, and then I fell three (nearly four) times doing it with my lead leg. Frankly, that was still an improvement over how much I feel the last time I tried this sort of drill, so I'll take it. Nothing of any real note happened for the rest of the class, as far as I'm concerned.
Tuesday
Muay Thai class
This was an endurance class focused on doing multiple consecutive attacks from the rear side. It felt like the sort of thing that's better for general fitness than for practical use, but as I've said for similar classes before, I'm fine with this being an occasional change-of-pace. Besides, we did include some elbow strike practice, so I'm always happy with that.
Wednesday
Muay Thai class
This class did more work on multiple consecutive strikes from the same side, although we also did some work on the lead side this time. It felt like I kept up well despite many of the specific sequences having new elements for me, probably helped by me tending to try flowing between all sorts of attacks in my personal shadowboxing. The kru had to leave a little early, so the equipment shop manager took over for the end of the class. As I was leaving, he said that he liked how I never seem to moan or complain about whatever we're doing but rather just do it. I can't deny that it was nice to be noticed for something positive.
Thursday
Muay Thai class
This class was about practicing mixing punching and parrying. In contrast to the previous two, this is definitely a practical skill that it was good to refresh on, since I've had success with this sort of thing in sparring when I've been able to get a read on whoever I'm working with, from novices through experienced competitive fighters. We even finished up with the padholder getting to mix up which sort of punch they'd use, for even more realistic practice. All in all, it was a nice way to keep those skills from dulling too much while I've been away from sparring.
