Workout Recap - Week of December 22, 2024

Holiday disruptions to gym availability meant that I was back to doing my own workouts for much of this week. I took those towards some strength-focused calisthenic work.

 

Monday

Muay Thai class

The attendance was so light for this Christmas Adam class that even the kru didn't show up. I had honestly been expecting it to just be me doing a solo bagwork session, so I'd adjusted the round timer to have longer rounds with shorter breaks than usual before starting to warm up, but some others showed up while I was doing that, so we had a regular padwork class instead. They didn't initially understand what I'd meant by asking if they'd want to reset the timer, though, so we did do a couple of rounds with my clock settings, much to their displeasure. It was a fine class overall, though.


Tuesday

 

Type: Pass/Fail


Diamond Push Ups - 1 set of 20 reps (pass)

Bridges - 1 set of 15 reps (pass)

Pistol Squats - 1 set of 3 reps, each side (pass)


Bonus: 1 set of 5 one-leg calf raises


I haven't done one of these workouts in earnest for a long time, so I decided to not be too aggressive and just check what my comfort levels were like with the various movements. That proved to be a good idea, because I was more than a bit awkward with them. Still, I got through, and I expect to do better for the next few once I've gotten that rust cleared.


Wednesday

Type: Pass/Fail


Bridges - 1 set of 15 reps (pass)

Handstand Push Ups - 1 set of 10 reps (pass)

Shrimp Squats - 1 set of 5 reps, each side (pass)


Bonus: 1 set of 20 V-ups, 1 set of 10 breath isometric star plank (each side)


The bridges and squats were feeling better this time compared to the previous workout, but getting back into handstand push ups brought the awkwardness back. It's fine, though; as with the others, I'll get better at them soon enough.


Thursday

 

Type: Pass/Fail


Handstand Push Ups - 1 set of 10 reps (pass)

Shrimp Squats - 1 set of 5 reps, each side (pass)

Uneven Pull Ups - 1 set of 3 reps, each side (pass)


Bonus: 3 sets of 5 breath isometric towel flex hang


Once again cycling in something different to get reacquainted with, and having a similar experience with it.


Friday

 

Type: Pass/Fail


Pull Ups - 1 set of 10 reps (pass)

Diamond Push Ups - 1 set of 20 reps (pass)

Close Squats - 1 set of 30 reps (pass)


Bonus: 3 sets of 6 breath isometric towel flex hang, 1 set of 5 handstand shoulder taps (each side), 1 set of 5 burpees


It wasn't quite one of my old classic AFAP workouts, but this was a nice return-to-form check that left me satisfied enough with the results.
