Workout Recap - Week of January 26, 2025
I suppose I shouldn't complain too much about grappling class attendance this week since I skipped a day of it as well, but in my defense, there were other circumstances going on for me that day.
Monday
Muay Thai class / BJJ class
This was a classic Monday stamina-burning Muay Thai class again. That said, I was working in a trio, so the burning wasn't as severe for me as it otherwise could've been. Regardless, one of my partners for it was a competitive fighter who gives advice to others regularly and yet who had only compliments for me this day, so maybe I should just take that as a good sign for my development. In BJJ class, we worked on takedowns, either shooting for a basic double-leg or doing a duck-under back-take from 50/50 position. That was followed by some sparring that I once again used as an opportunity to work on positional reversals and escapes rather than bullying someone who clearly had less training experience. It was a good training session overall.
Tuesday
Muay Thai class
This was a kick/knee-focused class, and on top of being fun, it was useful for working on my mid-offense movement because my partner kept giving up swathes of space after each hit. I think the edges of the kick shield were frayed, so I ended up with more irritation than usual on my shins, but that also gave good confirmation that I was hitting with the crest of the bone and not sliding along the pad after impact. Apparently, the class ran a bit long to offset not having any further classes this day due to bad weather, but I still felt relatively fresh at the end of it, so I guess that's a good sign for the BJJ classes having a good impact on my stamina.
Wednesday
Muay Thai class
This class worked on long offensive sequences, with focus on keeping good form and body control through the resulting fatigue. I'd dare to say I did well at that, since I managed to stop a round kick just short of smashing my partner's ribs on a rep where they messed up and forgot to hold the pads for it. That said, my brain was a bit desynced this day in general, so I was wobbling less-than-ideally when we finished up with tacking on a spinning backfist after the round kick in the previous sequence. Thus, I decided it'd be best to not stay for the BJJ class this day, which was a shame since the kru made the competitive fighters take part in it again, but alas.
Thursday
Muay Thai class
This was a boxing day, with a mix of pushing stamina and working on technical drills. I felt the pads cracking nicely from my punches, which was a cool little confidence-booster. Thursday BJJ remained a myth, but I don't think there's anything I can do about that, so whatever.
