Workout Recap - Week of July 14, 2024
This was more of a regular week. With a fight event coming up in a few weeks, that also means I'm mostly left training with people who aren't going to be competing soon, so the general themes of the training sessions until then are likely to be mindful self-improvement and helping newer people.
Monday
Muay Thai class
This was a day of high-volume offense, with most stuff ending in multiple kicks. That should've made it a tough class, but I was working in a trio, which I always find helps stretch my energy reserves. Unfortunately, one of my partners didn't seem to want to put in any effort, but at least the other one was locked in and ready to bang. All in all, it was a forgettable class, in the best sense.
Tuesday
Muay Thai class
This was a head-to-head defense day. We started out with some freestyle rounds going back-and-forth, then went into focused drills. Those included some practice with sweeping after catching a kick, which I was even worse at than usual because I was having a bad balance day with my brain and also could not stop getting my hips stuck on the trapped leg. Still, I got through it without any injuries, and if nothing else, I did get a lot of practice with falling safely, which is probably one of the most practical skills anyone learns in any martial art.
Wednesday
Muay Thai class
This was a boxing day. We had a few people taking their first class, so the kru kept things fairly simple. That was fine with me, since I've been trying to focus on maintaining more knee bend while neutral and/or punching after I seemed to be too upright in a clip that someone posted from my sparring last Saturday. Thus, classes like this are a nice chance for me to review my fundamentals and refine my muscle memory.
Thursday
Muay Thai class
This was another basic day, working in a trio with another newbie having their first class. Once again, it was a good excuse to slow down a bit and focus on trying to be as crisp and clean with my technique as I could. There wasn't anything too remarkable about this class aside from that, but I should take it as a good sign when I can say that.
