Workout Recap - Week of March 16, 2025

Yes, I'm aware that this is a week late. For personal reasons, I was preoccupied last week in such a way that I couldn't even do any training, let alone posting about previous training. It sucked, but there was one little nice point that the kru actually messaged me mid-week to check if anything was wrong because it's so rare for me to miss even one training session, let alone a few in a row. I am aware that it's rather pathetic for this to be the closest thing that I have to a friendship in meatspace, but I'll take it over nothing at all.

 

Monday

 

Muay Thai class


This was a grinder of doing one or two basic punches into a round kick. For whatever reason, my head-level kicks were feeling particularly good this day. My best guesses are that it was because I was focusing on stretching to hit with my shins instead of my insteps and on turning my hips fully into each kick. In any case, it was a good time.


Tuesday

 

Muay Thai class


This class worked on high volumes of round kicks after various preceding punch combinations. Building on the previous session, I think I was doing well at getting a lot of weight behind my kicks via good body mechanics, but I noticed that I was tending to hit a little higher on the pads than I was aiming for. All in all, something positive and something to clean up.


Wednesday

Muay Thai class


This was a head-to-head back-and-forth defense drill day, which is always a welcome change from padwork for me. We started out with a few rounds of freestyle exchanges, followed by set drills based on the mistakes that the kru noticed, and then wrapped up with some more freestyle. It was good practice, and as usual, I was pushing the pace with everyone, including the competitive fighters that I partnered with.


Thursday

 

Muay Thai class


More kick practice for this class, focused on low kicks and front kicks. People were saying that I kick hard, which still baffles me, even when it seems to have some degree of truth to it, because I'm still one of the smallest people at the gym in terms of weight (there is at least one literal child heavier than me). Maybe I'm just too depressed these days to think clearly about it.
