Workout Recap - Week of November 10, 2024

No double-class this Thursday, again, presumably since the competitive fighters went to another gym for sparring that day. I'm beginning to think that I would've been better off doubling up on Wednesdays instead of Thursdays, but alas, that might take a bit of time to arrange a switch.

Monday

Muay Thai class

As has been the tradition for Mondays of late, this was a stamina-burning class. I got to partner up with the person who'd asked about working with me after the previous Thursday's class, which was cool. I pushed them harder than they seemed to be used to, but I also gave some constructive advice along the way, and they were wonderfully receptive to it. At the end, they said they'd like to partner up again, but it wouldn't be an every-time sort of thing. I'll take it.

Tuesday

Muay Thai class

The first class this day worked on sequences with multiple same-side attacks in a row. I found it to be an interesting challenge to keep up my pace and still get decent power behind each strike. Overall, it was probably more athletic conditioning than practical sequences for actual fighting, but still, conditioning is important. The second class was head-to-head defense drills doing some basic exchanges to polish up our skills. I got to finish up doing a round of parrying/countering front kicks with a semi-pro fighter who's about my size, and we had a good time of working in some advanced defenses beyond just the basic scoop parry (we both did some elbow parries, and the fighter also mixed in catching and sweeping a few times, which I managed to resist once). Cool time, all in all.

Wednesday

Muay Thai class

This was pretty much a pure leg day, starting out with low kicks before moving into front kicks and then finishing up with five rounds of back-and-forth knee strikes. At the end, we even rounded things out with partnered belly-slapping sit-ups, which I always enjoy. It was very fun to have a whole class of just strikes I enjoy using.

Thursday

Muay Thai class

We did head-to-head defense drills for this class, which was nice to get during the first time period after a long stretch of almost purely padwork. I had some good prolonged exchanges with people both more and less skilled than me, so I was enjoying it. The kru decided to top things off with a few rounds of light sparring, and I was successful at achieving my personal goal of always doing at least three-strike sequences when attacking. It was very fun and useful, though I know not to trust some of the feedback I got from a big talker who was obviously lying.
