Workout Recap - Week of September 29, 2024
Honestly, I don't have much to stay about this week. It was a week. I got some nice work in. I'm always hungry for more.
Monday
Muay Thai class
The kru started out saying that this class would build up drill progressively, but I guess there was too much sucking going on for her to feel comfortable with that, because we ended up just doing various basic punch sequences that sometimes ended with a single round kick. She was providing an unusually-high amount of extra instruction before each drill, too, which I think lends credence to my theory. In any case, it was all fine by me, since I'm a basic anvil style of fighter.
Tuesday
Muay Thai class
This was an interesting class, focusing on range management during punches. I felt like I worked at a good pace from start to finish, and I further handled myself well in the calisthenic finisher. It might've helped that I had a partner with some experience this day, since it's sometimes easier to just cut loose and trust the other person to keep up than it is to willfully hold myself back to protect newbies. I don't mean that as an insult to newbies, incidentally; on the contrary, taking on extra responsibility for safety when working with them is what can make it easier for me to work with more experienced people.
Wednesday
Muay Thai class
This was a boxing class. The actual drills were on the basic side, but I had an experienced partner again, so we kept things spicy and intense. I think I'm getting better at dropping my weight to sit on my punches, but I did notice a few lapses even before fatigue became a factor, so it's something I can definitely still improve at. On the other hand, my defensive responses seemed to be quite sharp and clean, which I was happy with. It was a good hard class, and I was definitely feeling the load from it in my lats afterwards, but I'm taking it as a good sign that that's where the fatigue was rather than how it used to settle into my calves.
Thursday
Muay Thai class
This was a progressive sequence-building drill day. I started out in a trio with a couple of newbies, but one of them seemed to feel they were hot shit who didn't need to learn, so the kru took them away to work with a pair of experienced people (probably for their own safety, though if so, it ended up being somewhat in vain because they seemed to hurt their knee later on). In any case, the other newbie was trying and engaged about improving, so I had a good time with them. Overall, I think it was a fine way to wrap up the week.
